As we near the 21st anniversary of September 11th – a day we will never forget – we want to share with you some news regarding your former classmate and distinguished member of the University of Miami Law Review, Stephen Mark Fogel, J.D. ’89, tragically lost his life in the terrorist attacks on that day.
At the time of his death, Stephen was 40 years old and vice president and assistant general counsel for the financial services firm, Cantor Fitzgerald, which was located on the 104th floor of One World Trade Center in New York City. At the time, the University of Miami Alumni Association established a Memorial Scholarship in his honor.
Proud of his years spent in Miami, Stephen described them as among the happiest times of his life. Stephen engaged in advanced legal research, was the Articles and Comments Editor of the University of Miami Law Review 1988-89, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He immersed himself in the University of Miami community. A recipient of scholarships himself, he valued the financial support and saved his award letters as a reminder of the generosity he received.
Stephen’s family has made a commitment to endow the Stephen Mark Fogel J.D. ’89 scholarship at the University of Miami School of Law to honor his life and legacy and ease the financial burden for future law students. The recipients of this scholarship will have demonstrated high academic achievement and a strong record of community service.
Stephen’s optimism, heroism, and life achievements will live on in the accomplishments of future generations of students. As we approach this historic day, we encourage you to join his family and friends in honoring his legacy with a contribution to this scholarship fund.
